In 2012 Leilani launched her eco education program in racing. The goal is to educate and engage 75 million race fans in the USA and inspire them to rethink their day to day habits for our planet. Leilani already ran her first eco education race car at Daytona International Speedway in February 2012, with the Academy Award winning film "The Cove" on her car, becoming the first ever ocean awareness race car to ever hit the high banks of Daytona. Each time Leilani hits the track, her race car will carry a powerful message about an environmental issue with a specific call to action for the race fans. The call to action at Daytona was for fans to watch the film, sure to inspire. We even had the director and star of the film, Ric O'Barry and Louie Psihoyos, signing and giving away DVDs of this important film to the fans.

The call to action will change with every race: it may be to give up single use plastic bags and bottles. Or to try Meatless Mondays (more greenhouse gases come from raising animals for food than all the plane, trains, ships, cars, all forms of fossil fuel based transportation put together). Or to unplug your electronics when you are not using them (we currently waste $10 billion annually in vampire energy). To receive more information on our eco education program and find out if your company qualifies, please email our marketing director Craig Davidson (ecoteam@carbonfreegirl.com).

To spread environmental awareness utilizing a powerful and proven marketing vehicle in the form of a 200 mph race car and a woman who's passions are both winning races and fighting to protect the environment. Leilani's Eco Race Car will be a vehicle to send her to victory lane but more importantly it will send powerful environmental messages and call to action millions of race fans. Leilani will continue her commitment to offset any unavoidable emissions from any race we participate in, as she has done since 2007.

A message from the VP of Marketing of NativeEnergy, for those environmentalists with doubt (we know you're out there!):

"How does NativeEnergy reach people who are not already converts on the issue of climate change? Anyone who is engaged in any broad effort to speak to the public faces this question: Do I talk only to friendly audiences, or do I face the doubters and the hostiles? If we only address those who already agree with us, nothing changes. And if we work only with people who already believe in what we do, who is going to change the minds of those who don't? Leilani Münter is a proven and committed environmental advocate. That has been demonstrated beyond a doubt. Leilani is also a race car driver, and racing leaves an over sized carbon footprint. So there's a contradiction. And in that contradiction lies and opportunity: To reach some 75 million individuals who are avid racing fans. My guess is that a fair share of them are not troubling themselves about global warming. That is why we decided that it makes perfect sense to support Leilani and her mission. Is car racing "bad?" Are 75 million fans damnable? Surely not. Rather, those 75 million fellow inhabitants of our planet present a rich vein of possibility that we want to explore. And explore we will, following the guidance of Leilani, the carbon free girl."

Auto racing is the number one spectator sport in the world. 18 of the top 20 attended sporting events in the US are auto races. 17 are NASCAR races, the other is the Indy 500.

Auto racing is the number two sport on television, second only to NFL. More people tune in to watch NASCAR than baseball, basketball, and hockey combined.

Of all sports enthusiasts auto racing fans show the highest level of brand loyalty and brand awareness. More Fortune 500 companies sponsor NASCAR more than any other sport.

Auto racing is a $43 billion industry. With 25% of every marketing dollar spent on motorsports, the industry has a consistent annual average 15% growth rate. Nearly one third of Americans consider themselves fans.

NASCAR races are broadcast in over 150 countries.

NASCAR has 75 million fans that purchase over $3 billion in annual licensed product sales.

Women make up nearly half of the auto racing audience both on television and trackside.

A rising star in the racing world, Leilani Munter is one of a handful of women in the world to race cars at speeds of over 200 mph. In 2007 Sports Illustrated named her as one of the top ten female race car drivers in the world. In 2010, Discovery's Planet Green named her the number one eco athlete in the world, beating out Lance Armstrong for the top spot.

Almost as well known for her environmental activism, Leilani is also politically active in the legistlative fight for the environment. In 2008 she went to Capitol Hill to speak with Congress on behalf of climate issues. Leilani purchases an acre of rainforest for every race she runs to offset her carbon footprint and has been a long time vegetarian and eco activist. Leilani holds a bachelors degree in Biology specializing in Ecology, Behavior and Evolution from the University of California San Diego. While attending college she worked as a volunteer at a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center.

She started racing cars in 2001. By 2004 she had gained the attention of the racing world when she finished fourth at Texas Motor Speedway, the highest finish for a female driver in the history of the racetrack. By 2006 she had raced her way from the short tracks of southern California all the way to the high banks of Daytona International Speedway. In 2007 Leilani received a life changing call from an IndyCar team and later that year she became the fourth woman in history to race in the Indy Pro Series, the developmental league of IndyCar. Her racing accomplishments have landed her on five magazine covers and in the pages of Italian Vogue, Esquire, Glamour, Sports Illustrated, New York Times, Washington Post, and USA Today. She is no stranger to television either, with appearances on MSNBC, NBC Sports, National Geographic, Discovery's Planet Green, and ESPN.

If you can imagine this, we want you to join Leilani's eco education project. We are looking for companies with imagination. Companies who are taking responsibility for the environment and want to educate others. Companies who believe they can make the world a better place. Companies that know by working together we can make a bigger difference than we can when we work alone. Companies that want to collaborate with other forward thinking organizations to send a powerful message. A message that says, we know we are not perfect but we are going to do everything we can to make the world a better place. And with each step we take, we get closer to a better tomorrow. A tomorrow where green technology can power race cars to 200 mph. A message that says together we can change the world.

Leilani current plans are to spend 2011 and 2012 racing in the ARCA Series (a developmental league for NASCAR) with the goal to run all the televised ARCA races and plans to run part time NASCAR Nationwide in 2013.
