LEILANI MÜNTER CAUGHT UP IN "THE BIG ONE" AT DAYTONA
Ten Cars Collected on Lap 7 When the #52 of Bill Baird Spins in Turn Two
DAYTONA BEACH, FL (February 6, 2010) The fact that Leilani Münter had turned the fastest lap of the race - she was 2/10 of a second faster than the leaders - when she was taken out in "The Big One" at Daytona is small consolation to the driver whose dreams were ended on lap 7 when she was collected in a 10 car pile up. The #52 of Bill Baird got loose and spun coming out of turn two. Münter took evasive action by slowing down and getting on to the apron of the race track but was hit from behind by the #58 of Chad Hackenbracht.
"My spotter Chris Osborne (who is also Kurt Busch's spotter) did a great job of immediately letting me know about the wreck. I had slowed down quite a bit and I was down on the apron of the racetrack thinking I was going to get through it when all of a sudden I was hit from behind pretty hard and it was all over for us," said Leilani, "Yesterday was one of the best days of my life - I qualified on time for my first race at Daytona and I was thrilled. Then to have it end like this today, I am absolutely heartbroken."
"Daytona 2010 was one of the most enjoyable weekends for me as a car owner. Leilani brings a positive attitude to the race track and that brings the whole team up. She never gets down and is just glad to get the opportunity to be racing at Daytona. She did a good job all week giving great feedback on what she needed in the car. As a team we leaned so much about what it is going to take in a car to be competitive in the races the rest of the year." said team owner Mark Gibson, "Everyone on the team worked hard and even though the race did not turn out like we wanted., I feel like it was a successful week at the track.

Mark Gibson Racing (MGR) and Leilani are working on a race program that will have her back in the ARCA Series Presented by Re/Max and Menards at Texas Motor Speedway on April 16, where Leilani already has a seventh and fourth place finish - the highest finish for female stock car driver in the history of Texas Motor Speedway. In addition to Texas, the other events MGR and Leilani are looking to enter include Talladega Superspeedway on April 23, both events at Pocono Raceway on June 5 and July 31, Michigan Int'l Speedway on June 11, Iowa Speedway on July 10, Chicagoland Speedway on August 27, Kansas Speedway on September 30 and the finale at Rockingham Speedway on October 9. All these races will have live or same day coverage on SPEED. They are currently seeking marketing partners for these events.
