(February 3, 2009) - Due to circumstances beyond her control, we regret to announce that confirmed sponsorship for Leilani Münter to make her much anticipated ARCA Re/Max Series debut at Daytona International Speedway on February 7th has fallen through. We are unable to give further details due to a pending legal investigation. A top quality race team has race cars ready for Leilani to run at Talladega Superspeedway on April 24th, 2009. Update: Leilani's lap time in ARCA testing was quick enough to put her 16th on the starting grid of the ARCA Daytona race on February 7 but due to lack of sponsorship, she was unable to participate.
About Leilani Münter
Leilani started racing cars in 2001 and in 39 starts has nine top-five and 19 top-ten finishes. In 2006, she set the record for the highest finish for a female driver in the history of Texas Motor Speedway when she finished fourth. In 2007 Leilani became the fourth woman in history to race in the Indy Pro Series, the developmental league of IndyCar. She qualified fifth for her open wheel debut in August of 2007 and earned praise from many in the IndyCar community including four time Indy 500 Champion Rick Mears. Her racing accomplishments have landed her on the pages of USA Today, Glamour, Vogue, Vanity Fair, Men's Journal, the Washington Post and ESPN. Esquire Magazine has called her "A Woman We Love" and Sports Illustrated named her in their list of the top ten female race car drivers in the world. Leilani holds a degree in biology and is using her voice as a race car driver to draw attention to environmental issues. Leilani is an Ambassador for the National Wildlife Federation and is politically active in the legislative fight for the environment. She has made several trips to Capitol Hill to speak with members of Congress on behalf of environmental legislation. As part of her Eco Dream Team program, Leilani's race car will carry an environmental message calling to action millions of race fans to make a difference by making eoc minded changes to their lives.
