(July 29, 2008) Los Angeles, CA - Leilani Münter, a professional female race car driver and environmental activist has been
chosen as one of the "Lucky Few" who will appear in a fall ad campaign for Lucky Brand Jeans. This will be the first major marketing campaign
for Lucky Jeans, whose parent company is Liz Claiborne Inc. The ads feature eight individuals who were hand picked for being "real people
fulfilling their dreams."
Leilani, who is becoming as well known for her environmental activism as she is for her racing, adopts an acre of rainforest for every race she enters.
Her recent appearances in the Washington Post, Italian Vogue, and ESPN the Magazine all have focused as much ink on her off track eco activities as they
have on her on track accomplishments. Leilani is the fourth woman in history to race in the Indy Pro Series, the development league of IndyCar
(qualifying 5th in her open wheel debut at Kentucky Speedway last August). She is also a media favorite: Esquire Magazine has called
her "A Woman We Love" and Sports Illustrated named her in their list of the top ten female race car drivers in the world.
Münter, who holds a degree in biology, says she loves to race but has an equal passion for the environment. She grew up riding horses in
Minnesota and is a long time vegetarian. She is currently putting together a race program she calls her "Eco Dream Team" that will be a vehicle
(pun intended) to reach out to millions of gear-head, NASCAR flag waving race fans to make eco minded changes to their lives.
"Changing out light bulbs, recycling, and using canvas grocery bags may seem like small things," says Münter, "but small changes, when multiplied by millions, can make a big difference."
Münter has been in discussions with several corporations about her Eco Dream Team. She won't name them but says they are all companies that
"are doing their part to make a difference in the world." Whether Leilani will be successful in persuading millions of race fans to embrace a tree
is yet to be seen, but she certainly has created a buzz within the racing and eco communities. And also within one company called Lucky Brand Jeans.
The other dreamers starring in Lucky's new ad campaign include screenwriter Jason Keller, painter Kris Lewis, photographer Hillary Hulteen, actress
Serena Reeder, filmmaker Dustin Lynn, musician Cory Chisel, and Hannah Wood, founder of the organic lip balm company Blabbermouth and sister of actor Elijah Wood.
Look for Leilani and the rest of the "Lucky Few" wearing their favorite Lucky Jeans all over billboards, web banners and in major magazines
like GQ, Vogue, Details, and Vanity Fair in October.
