MÜNTER FINISHES 4TH IN HEAT RACE, 12TH IN MAIN EVENT AT ILLIANA
Schererville, IN (May 27, 2006) - Leilani Münter went out to practice for her second race at Illiana Speedway, her third race this season, and promptly had
her throttle stick to the floor going into turn one. She reacted quickly by spinning the car and came out of the incident with no damage to the #57 KONICA MINOLTA Chevrolet except for perhaps some uneven wear on her tires. Unfortunately for Münter
the tire rules at Illiana Speedway did not allow her to purchase more tires so she was forced to qualify and race on the same tires. She also missed the rest
of the practice session in order to fix the problem.
"I have never had a stuck throttle before," said Münter, "and I hope it never happens to me again. My crew chief Deon is awesome and he identified the
problem immediately and fixed the throttle linkage quickly so we could get out there for the second practice."
Münter went on to finish 4th of 10 cars in the heat race and started 13th in the main event. She was on the inside row
for the start of the race and going into turn one a car tried to take Münter and the car starting to her outside three wide going into turn one of
the first lap and made contact with Münter, slightly damaging the #57 Konica Minolta Chevrolet.
"There was a lot of impatience out there," commented Münter after the race, "going three wide into turn one of the first lap doesn't seem necessary,
the only thing that usually gets you is a lot of torn up race cars."
Münter continued on and ran a clean race, finishing 12th of 19 cars, on the lead lap.
